
Procedure for Harvest of Related Cord Blood Stem Cells
- Details obtained from family re:
- Details of recipient including CMV status and risk category.
- Number of previous pregnancies.
- Due date.
- Intended place of delivery.
- Tissue type of parents and affected child.
- Referral to SCT Committee for consideration.
- If accepted discuss with NZBS re: collection (For collection and storage details see separate section of the guidelines.)
- Notifications of referring obstetrician and meeting with family to discuss procedural details ie. need for delivery in Christchurch Womens Hospital and induction preferable.
- Maternal assessment to include:
- Maternal details.
- Possibility of amniocentesis to determine tissue type of foetus. Tissue typing test can be done in Christchurch.
- Disease testing.
- Medical testing.
- Consent.
- Contact Obstetrician/midwives re: final plan and protocol.
- Delivery sample is disease tested and HLA typed.
- Neonatal screening of infant for common inherited disorders and any added screens which may be indicated by family history.
- At 6 months post harvest:
- Donor assessment by formal paediatric consultation.
- Maternal assessment, with repeat infectious disease serology screening.
