Investigation of Suspected CML
All patients presenting with CML should undergo the following investigations:
- Full clinical examination including documentation of spleen and liver size in cm below the costal margin (where possible by USS) and presence of lymphadenopathy
- Full blood count and full manual differential
- Routine biochemistry and serology (U&E, LFTs, alb, Ca, LDH, urate, HIV, hepatitis B and C serology)
- Bone marrow aspirate with full granulocyte differential and blast count (+/-trephine)
- Cytogenetics for G banding and FISH for Bcr:Abl
- Immunophenotyping
- Peripheral blood for multiplex RT-PCR to identify transcript must be sent
