Medication Availability
Medications available and funded in the community are listed in the PHARMAC Pharmaceutical Schedule.
Whilst community pharmacists will be able to procure all funded medications for patients, several haematology medicines are high cost and are rarely used, meaning that pharmacies will not necessarily hold stock. To facilitate supply of these items please:
- Prescribe the medication a few working days in advance of the treatment starting.
- Prescribe full packs of the medicine where at all possible (part packs of expensive items can tie up significant capital on pharmacy shelves).
- Advise the patient to present the prescription to the pharmacy a few days in advance of requiring the treatment, and to talk to their pharmacist about timeframes of supply.
