Service Description/Staffing

The Haemostasis Service provides thrombosis management, including strategy development across medical, surgical, paediatric, and obstetric services. It is also the comprehensive haemophilia treatment centre for the South Island. The service provides outpatient care for patients and families with inherited bleeding disorders, patients with VTE (including Pulmonary Embolism), and patients requiring peri-operative anti-coagulation. Two Clinical Nurse Specialists and a senior staff nurse run the nurse-led service with Consultant supervision by Dr Mark Smith, who specialises in thrombotic and bleeding disorders.
