Context

Organisation of Laboratory Services

Normal hours of work are 8.30 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. A reduced number of staff work on public holidays and weekends.

Blood samples should reach the laboratory early in the day. A request for “CBC” if marked urgent will be dealt with immediately and the haemoglobin, white cell count with a differential and platelet count results will be placed on Éclair. A manual differential count takes longer but will be done semi-urgently.

The Haematology Laboratory Registrar performs bone marrow aspirates and some other special tests and needs to be contacted so that these tests can be done at mutually suitable times.
