Breakthrough Nausea and Vomiting
There are no specific guidelines to aid treatment in this area. Adding in new agents in combination can be effective but side effects could accumulate. Options include:
- Dexamethasone 8 mg PO twice daily (IV if not tolerated PO).
- Domperidone 10 mg PO four times a day (or metoclopramide 20 mg PO four times a day).
- Cyclizine 50 mg PO/IV TDS.
- Haloperidol 0.5-3 mg BD PO/SC.
- Lorazepam 1-2 mg PO BD.
- Nozinan (levomepromazine) 6.25 mg – 12.5 mg PO/SC bolus TDS (or SC infusion).
- Ondansetron 8 mg PO/IV BD if nausea is chemically induced.
- Scopolamine (hyoscine) patches 1.5 mg per 72 hours.
